720  Hour Curriculum

Anatomy and Physiology  - 120 Hours

In this course, we study all the systems of the body, and the common pathologies and deviations  that can occur  especially as they relate to massage. This class is taught online and students must have access to a computer and the internet.

Kinesiology - 72 Hours

Kinesiology means the study of movement. In this course, we study bones and  several muscles, where they're located and how muscles move the body. We learn  a variety of ways including palpation, drawing, and moving.

Professional Development -  116 Hours

This course includes interactive classroom experiences where we explore client scenarios and develop communication skills. Topics include professional relationships, scope of practice, and career preparation. Students will create a business plan.. Some of the Business portion of this class is taught in a distance learning format.

Massage Theory and Techniques - 172 Hours

Students begin by learning  to perform a  relaxation massage for the healthy adult. Therapeutic  techniques are then introduced which may provide pain relief and increase range of motion. Students learn  to create an individual plan of care for the clients they serve.

Supplemental Program - 80 Hours

These classes include a wellness series where we explore concepts of wellness and  holistic health. Also included is Ethics, hydrotherapy, and Pathology. The Ethics Supplemental Class is required for graduation.

Student Clinic - 64 Hours

In Student Clinic, students work with clients from the public with a Lakewood faculty member on site. This supports the transition from school into a career setting.  We also go out into the community for outreach clinics.  This is a fun way to increase public awareness of the benefits of massage and increase employment opportunities upon graduation.

Workshop Electives - 96 Hours

Workshops provide students with the opportunity to explore a variety of  bodywork modalities and techniques  that are complimentary to massage and may be incorporated in a massage session. This allows students to develop their coursework in areas of their particular interest.
