Lakewood Staff We are very proud of the staff at our school and we would like our viewing public to know a bit more about each of our dedicated people. If it were not for their interest and dedication, Lakewood would not be the high quality institution that if has become over the years.
Nancy graduated from Ferris State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 1988, and from Massage Therapy School in 1992. She became the Director of Lakewood School in 1997 when the school was founded. Nancy developed the Anatomy curriculum for the school. Her continued education has been in the area of Teaching and School Administration. Nancy has served on various committees and an Ethics workgroup for the AMTA Council of Schools, and on a task force for the National Certification Board. She has been and is currently involved in the legislative process for the licensure of Massage Therapists in Michigan.
Instructor, Student Clinic Supervisor Tammy received her Massage Therapy training at Lakewood School and has also been a Graduate Assistant at Lakewood for two years. She is employed at the Gilbert Chiropractic Clinic where she has been a Massage Therapist for the past three years. Tammy's training beyond her graduation in 2001 from Lakewood includes continuing education coursework in Cranial Sacral and Lymphatic Drainage work at the Upledger Institute.
Karen Sheldon RN NCBTMB Student Clinic Supervisor Karen received her Massage Therapy training at Lakewood School and was a graduate in the Class of June 1998. Karen owns and operates her own practice in Yale, MI – “Healing Hands.” Karen has taken additional training in the areas of Myofascial Release I, Polarity, Introductory Shiatsu, Acupressure Facials, Aromatherapy, and Mind Body Approaches. Additionally, Karen maintains her membership in AMTA.
Gwen Bushey RMT BSMT Instructor, Management Consultant Gwen is a Lakewood Graduate with over 7 years of Massage Therapy experience. Gwen holds a Bachelor of Applied Sciences in Massage Therapy from Siena Heights University with an emphasis on Business Marketing and Ethics. She also holds Level I & II Myofascial credentials and Soft Tissue Release. Gwen has 2200 hours of Massage Therapy training and is a Registered Massage Therapist in Ontario, Canada. She also has the role of Management Consultant to the school.
Carol is a 2003 graduate of Lakewood School and has been a practicing Massage Therapist for the past three years. Carol concentrates her applications in the areas of Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue work, Hot Stone Therapy, Aromatherapy, Prenatal & Labor Massage. Carol in a member of ALACE (Association of Labor Assistants & Childbirth Educators) as a trained Doula. She has taken additional training for this specialized field of practice along with coursework in Aromatherapy, Polarity, Shiatsu, and Myofascial Massage. Carol comes to Lakewood with a strong background in Business with over fifteen years of practical experience and training.
Kelly is a graduate of Algonac High School and has taken coursework at SC4 and Dorsey Business School where she earned her Executive Secretary Degree in 1984. Her background as a Paraprofessional in the East China School District and her Secretarial work at Auto Craft Tool and Die in Algonac also prepared her for her position at Lakewood. Kelly has been married for 19 years and she and her husband Tim have three children and two grandchildren.
Katie comes to Lakewood with a strong and varied background in the area of Bookkeeping. She currently works part time for Lakewood as well as three other St. Clair County businesses as their bookkeeper. Katie attended St. Clair County Community College to further her education in the areas of Business and Secretarial skills. Katie and her family live in St. Clair.
